EVERYDAY WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT (1)

DEDICATION

This Book is DEDICATED TO HIM – THE HOLY SPIRIT and to the esteem READERS.

This book can be used as daily devotion for the purpose of getting more and more acquainted with and applying the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the believer’s life and ministry. It is a simple compilation of Bible passages on the Holy Spirit. You can read a section on the Holy Spirit In a selected book of the Bible every day. For example, take Genesis, the first book of the Bible as your first reading or devotion, and do that with the other portions until you are through with the book within the month, then you can start all over again.

Note that some passages are short; you may combine two or three books of the Bible in a day. For instance, a portion can be taken in the morning, another in the evening and another in the evening. By so doing, you can cover the whole book in a month. And as you continue to do so, certainly the Holy Spirit will make Himself more and more real to you and you will get very acquainted with Him. That is my prayer for the reader, in Jesus’ Name. Amen!

FOREWARD

Without the Holy Spirit

When the Lord God Almighty begins  to renew His Church; that is restoring His work by the Holy Spirit; and believers become acquainted with His move, a clear and definite consciousness of the supernatural brightens up and this rules over lives and ministries. Then awareness comes, that Ministry without the Holy Spirit makes the Church to become like a desolate land. Below are the List of things that happen without the Holy Spirit:

  1. Apostasy, Heresy, Falsehood and Counterfeit signs and wonders in the church. (Matt. 24:11).
  2. Strive and unhealthy competition for fame and popularity; thereby the struggle for high number of membership, wrong pursuit for prosperity or material possessions. (Matt. 23:5-7).
  3. Christianity becomes a religion without genuine accompanied power, thereby, making ministers to seek for powers from the devil. (1 Tim. 4:1-5, Acts 8:17-20).
  4. Human intellect begins to dominate the administration in the church. Incompetence, inadequacy and suspicion become very pronounced. (Ecc. 1:17-18, Prov. 3:5-6).
  5. Trying to apply human efforts, methods and approaches to combat sinfulness in the society. That is why we have church constitutions, rules and regulations used instead of the Bible e.g. on marriage issues, land disputes, caring for the needy: widows, orphans and the destitute.
  6. Ministers become blind shepherds leading the sheep astray and scattering them into the wilderness of sin, because they lack the Holy Ghost authority and direction to minister the truth (Jer. 23:1-6). They starve the flock and drive profit from their commitment.
  7. Ministers of the gospel strive for titles like, Rev/Dr/Bishop/Most/Right/Eminence etc. forgetting the ministry gifts of the Holy Ghost, (Eph. 4:11-12, Eph. 2:20-22).
  8. Ministries subject the church workers to their intimidating opinion or views, thereby making them to grow with inferiority complex rather than being set at liberty to discover more about the call of God upon their lives. So church workers also become personal house stewards, errand boys, body guards, personal assistants and secretaries etc. (Mark 10:43-44, Matt. 23:11-12).
  9. Ministers have made the merchandise of the olive oil, handkerchiefs, water and other items attaching false supernatural importance to its use. (Mark 6:13).
  10. Ministers and believers in general have ungodly intentions in the work of God, trying to build empires around them, thereby creating divisions, tensions and confusion in the church of Jesus Christ. (1 Cor.1:10-16, Gal.1:6-9).
  11. Because the Holy Spirit is not in control, crafty and worldly ideas are promoted to implement the programs of the church, e.g. entertainment (music), amusement, fashion parade, fund raising and gambling (Jn. 2:13-17).

INTRODUCTION

The discourse in this book is to remind the church and point us towards the despised or ignored Christ-centered discipleship lifestyle and ministry.

The church today, personified in the individual believer, is passing through the refining fire. The supreme scrutiny of the genuine Christian is timely and preparatory to being presented, without spot, blemish and wrinkle, before the great white Throne of the Eternal Judge.

           What is being fulfilled in our time is the prediction recorded in first Timothy chapter four verses one and two;

Now the Spirit expressly say, that in latter times (which must be now)some willdepart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spiritsand doctrines of demons, speaking hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron….”

Second Timothy chapter three buttresses the position and the glaring behavior of the “departed” apostate church; and verse five sums it up “having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof….”

What could be the cause of this major Spiritual drift? Paul says, “The spirit expressly says….some will depart from the faith….”The moment there is a departure from the genuine, the counterfeit or falsehood will set in.

Jesus clearly stated:“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me and I in him, bears much fruit (the fruits of the spirit in Gal 5:22-23), for without me you can do nothing….” (Jn15:5)

There is no doubt that many believers have been very busy “serving God” without Him on the scene. Many are actually serving self than God. They selfishly decide to do what they want and falsely ascribe such motives to the Lord’s Spirit.

The abominable atrocities of the apostate church are being closely checked by God just like He dealt with the evil intention of the construction of the tower of Babel; He stopped it

The wicked departure from the faith will never withstand the Return and Restoration by the Lord’s power by His Spirit. How canthe creature ever outstand the Creator? Gods plan to sustain his elect shall never be thwarted! He is launching in full swing to put to rest the seeming intense flaw of the truth.

The Return and Restoration                                                                                                    One day a pastor friend and I were studying about the Holy Spirit in the out skirt of Jos, Nigeria, the Holy Spirit referred me to Isaiah 40:10.

Behold, the Lord God shall come with a strong hand, and his arm shall rule for Him; behold, His reward is with Him, and His work is before Him”

This is the movement of divine intervention ever known! Isaiah goes on in verse 11:

“He will feed His flock like a shepherd, He will gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and gently lead those who are with young”.

The sound of the trumpet is clearly blaring in the atmosphere (Joel 2:1, 15). “He, who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches” (Rev. 2:7,11,17).

It is only with a spiritual hearing sensitivity that the church will return and be fully restored to God’s Spiritual originality. Many have been stranded all ready for lack of such hearing sensitivity and obedience.

Because the Lord God Himself has decided to step into the matter by His supreme supervisory role, we are regaining our place fully in His kingdom business. He is making us submit to Him and to quit the religious lifestyle that is without “the Way, Truth and the Life”, we are returning to not only the promise of the Holy Spirit (Joel 2:28-29)(for some of us) but the moment of the signs and wonders preceding the day of the Lord;(Joel 2:30-32); Hag.2:5-9; Heb 12:25-29).

It is for this purpose that a fresh and continued study of the Holy Spirit has become an inevitable RETURN. It is strictly the Biblical concept of the knowledge of this Special Personality, the gift of God to us that we are deliberately seeking to have access to Him and Ministry. We acknowledge His deep involvement in this: “But the helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will (now has been sent) in My name, He will teach you all things. And bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you”. (Jn. 14:26).

He will teach us and remind us all things pertaining to the Christ-centered discipleship lifestyle we must embark on, from now henceforth even forevermore in Jesus name. Amen.

And when “…..the Helper comes …..the Spirit of truth … He will testify of me …” and the believers will bear witness” of Christ Jesus that He is truly the son of God (Jn. 16:13-15).

And again, “…the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth … (Jn. 16:13-15).

The blunt truth is, the only opinion for the end time revival is the Holy Ghost option. The church is rotting without Him. The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead (resurrection power and life) will quicken us from the deadness of life and ministry into eternal life.

Let us go back to the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, to rediscover the Holy Spirit, and selflessly submit and permit Him to have a thorough check of the hidden interiors of our decaying Christianity, and let Him bring back His fire brand life for the last revival and harvest on planet earth in Jesus Mighty Name!

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – GENESIS

GENESIS 1:2 “The earth was without form and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep, And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.”

This was the way creation took place. God Himself had to acknowledge the role of the Holy Spirit to pave the way for His creation pronouncements. God acknowledged Him, permitted Him to play His role and things worked out well. So we too must do!

Genesis 6:3 “And the Lord said, my Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years”

It was by His Spirit that God had to overlook the wickedness of man (vs. 5 -7). Mercy followed when Noah was identified as “found grace in the eyes of the Lord” (v.8) therefore God’s contention between His Spirit and man had to be settled. We should also pray that no matter what our spiritual set back “let the Holy Spirit not strive with me in Jesus’ Name. Amen.”

Genesis 41:38 “And Pharaoh said to his servants, can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is in the Spirit of God?”

This heathen king acknowledged that the potential abilities of Joseph were not unconnected with the indwelling performance of the Holy Spirit. And because of the irrevocable genuineness of the anointed result oriented ministry of Joseph, Pharaoh voluntarily relinquished his kingly position to him. (vv 38-41).

We must reign by the Holy Spirit’s indwelling presence in every facet of our lives in the Name of Jesus Christ.

The Holy Spirit in the bible – EXODUS

Exodus 28:3 “So you shall speak to all who are gifted in artisans, whom I have filled with the Spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’sgarment, to consecrate him, that he may minister to me as a priest”.

God had to fill the gifted artisans with the Spirit of wisdom (one of the gift of the Holy Spirit in 1Cor. 12:8 so that they would qualify as God’s artisans to do His appointed hand work upon His minister, the priest. As far as God is concerned, the artisan’s giftedness was null and void without the Holy Ghost. No matter what our peculiar human talents or giftedness, the Holy Spirit alone qualifies us to minister to the Lord.

Let’s pray for the Holy Spirit’s touch upon our earthly human professionalism, so that we must fulfill God’s purpose for our existence in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen!

Exodus 31:3 “And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, understanding, in knowledge and all manner of workmanship,”

God called Bezaleel the son of Uri by name and made him a Spirit filled craftsman. See the blessing and gifts of the Holy Spirit upon him. We all need the same favor of the Spirit’s anointing to accomplish God’s purpose in our life time on earth. (See notes on Ex. 28:3)

Exodus 35:31 “And He has filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom and understanding, in knowledge and all manner of workmanship.”

It is only by the Spirit of God that we are able to perform with divine efficacy, accuracy and precision from inception to finishing. (See above). And continue the reading from verse 31 to 35. The lesson here is profoundly relevant to our today’s Christian world of the educated; no matter what qualifications we have obtained in secular knowledge, the Holy Spirit should always be employed to carry out the heavenly expertise for perfect and excellent performance!

LEVITICUS

There is no reference about the Holy Spirit in the book of Leviticus. It is still Spirit inspired and recorded. There should still be passages that are Spirit implied. You should discover them in your personal Bible study. Therefore, read the book anyway.

The Holy Spirit in NUMBERS

Numbers 11:17 “Then I will come down and talk with you there, I will take of the Spirit that is upon you and will put the same upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, that you may not bear it yourself alone”.

Numbers 11:25  “Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to him, and took of the Spirit that was upon him, and placed the same upon the seventy elders… when the Spirit rested upon them, that they prophesied, although they never did so again.”

God took of His Spirit that was upon Moses and put the same upon the seventy elders, this qualified them to ministers in the same office with Moses, so they shall bear the burden of the people with him; that is to minister to the people according to the instructions of God by His Spirit.

You cannot be of legitimate help to anyone except by the Spirit of God whom He permits to rest upon you. Moses was over burdened by the responsibilities over the people, so God heard their cry and responded by the special Holy Spirit’s work upon the elders.

May we allow the Lord God to equip us by His Holy Ghost empowerment so that we can effectively minister to the needs of others, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen!

Numbers 11:26 “… And the Spirit rested upon them. Now they were among those listed, but who had not gone out to the tabernacle, yet they prophesied in the camp …”

Numbers11:29 “… Oh that all the Lords people were prophets, and that the Lord will put His Spirit upon!”

What a great declaration by Prophet Moses accredited to the Holy Ghost, guaranteeing effectiveness in every ministering gifts.

Today we should take this with all seriousness in the Church; the leadership should let every believer discover the Spirit’s assignment upon their lives for the supernatural advancement of God’s Kingdom on earth in Jesus’ Name!

Numbers 24:2 “And Balaam raise his eyes, and saw Israel encamped according to their tribes; and the Spirit of God came upon him.”

Take a look at God’s people (His inheritance) in our various churches or ministries with selfless motives, the Spirit of God will certainly minister to us His message to them for the fulfillment of His plans upon them.

Numbers 27: 18 “And the Lord said to Moses:  take Joshua the son of Nun with you, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him.”

The process for succession in God’s work can only be well-handled by the Holy Spirit’s identification. Rule out human ability and politicking in God’s work.

The references on the Holy Spirit in the book of Numbers are: (11:17; 11:25; 11:29; 24:2; 27:18) reading them again and again will revitalize Him in your spirit being!

4

The Holy Spirit in DEUTERONOMY

Deuteronomy 34:9 “Now Joshua the son of Nun was full of the Spirit of wisdom (one of the gift of the Holy Spirit, 1 cor. 12:8) for Moses had laid his hands on him; so the children of Israel heeded him, and did as the Lord had commanded Moses.”

Let us take note of ‘Moses had laid his hands’ on Joshua (the Lord God instructed him to do so in Num. 27:18).

-Joshua was full of the Spirit of wisdom.

-Israel heeded or obeyed him.

-And did according to God’s order to Moses.

Certainly, a careful study of these points must impress great lessons for us to learn about what the Holy Spirit can achieve in our lives and ministries. Deuteronomy 34:9 is the only reference on the Holy Spirit in the book. Keep making reference to it; it will surely sustain your Holy Spirit’s occupied life. Amen.

JOSHUA

The book of Joshua has no reference on the Holy Spirit. But you cannot afford to read it all the time considering the mighty works of faith accomplished by Joshua. We all know that faith is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit!

5

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – JUDGES

Judges 3:10 “The Spirit of the Lord came upon him (othniel) and he judged Israel. He went out to war, and the lord delivered Cushan-Rishathaim king of Mesopatamia into his hand: and his hand prevailed over Cushan-Rishathaim.”

For good judgment to Israel and great victory in war, Othniel relied on what the Holy Spirit could do in his life. We should imitate Othniel’s lifestyle for good success in every area of our lives especially in the ministry. Amen!

Judges 6:34 “And the Spirit of the lord came upon Gideon; then he blew the trumpet and the Abiezrites gathered behind him.”

There was a great battle set by “the people of the East” (vs.33). Prompted and strengthened by the Spirit of the Lord, Gideon blew the trumpet, it sounded supernaturally powerful that it gathered divine support behind him. Note the victory Gideon had over Midianites with only three hundred soldiers (Judges 7).

May we rely on the prompting and strength of the Holy Spirit to use any instrument (trumpet) of support against the enemies of our lives and callings. Amen.

Judges 11:29 “Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jephthah, and he passed through Gilead and Manasseh, and passed through Mizpah of Gilead to advance toward the people of Ammon.”

Jephthah did not have to make a vow to the Lord (vs.30), after the Holy Spirit had come upon him to achieve God’s task before him. The tragic vow led to the loss of his only daughter.

The Holy Spirit guarantees our victories, vows may not be necessary.

Judges 13:25 “And the Spirit of the Lord began to move upon him (Samson) at Dan between Zorah and Estaol.”

Judges 14:6 “And the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him (Samson), and he tore the lion apart as one would have torn apart a young goat, though he had nothing in his hand…”

Judges 14:19 “Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon him (Samson) mightily, and he went down to Ashkelon and killed thirty of their (Philistines) men …”

Judges 15:14 “…Then the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him (Samson); and the ropes that were on his arms became like flax that is burnt with fire, and his bands broke loose from his hands…”

The Holy Spirit endued Samson with extraordinary strength to enable him perform incredibly. But Samson misappropriated God’s favor and became selfish in his motives. God’s plan was not only fully perfected in his ministry. You can do anything you want with God’s gift in your life. But one day you will be found guilty and accountable for all misdeeds.

6

The Holy Spirit in SAMUEL

1 Samuel 10:6 “Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you (Saul), and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man.”

1 Samuel 10:9 “So it was, when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, that God gave him (Saul) another heart; and all those signs came to pass that day.”

1 Samuel 10:10 “When they came there to the hill, there was a group of prophets to meet him; then the Spirit of God came upon him (Saul), and he prophesied among them.”

It is only by the dealings of the Holy Spirit that people can be able to prophesy in whatever capacity or office they find themselves.

1 Samuel 11:6 “Then the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard this news, and his anger aroused.”

When the Holy Spirit stirs up anger in us, we do not act foolishly. Our action leads us to victory over unbearable and contrary situations.

1 Samuel 16:13 “Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him (David) in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward

The choice of David as the king of Israel was by the Spirit of the Lord. Our continued consciousness and sensitivity of the Holy Spirit can set us on kingly levels, even among our peers. By the Spirit, we are expected to rule together with Christ.

1 Samuel 16:14 “But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and a distressing spirit (disturbing spirit) from the Lord troubled him.”

We should not allow the Spirit of God depart from us, for such an action can warrant divine permission for the contrary spirits to find access into one’s life. (Jn. 12:43-45).

1 Samuel 19:20 “Then Saul sent messengers to take David.” And when they saw the group of prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as leader over them, the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.” (Read Verses 20-23).

1 Samuel 19:23 “… then the Spirit of God was upon him (Saul) also, and he went on and prophesied until he came to Naioth in Ramah.”

The hatred Saul had against David was unnecessary. Taking a look at Samuel and the group of prophets made the messengers and Saul to submit to the Holy Spirit who was in charge of the operation at hand. But king Saul ended up stripped naked all day and night under the Holy Ghosts charge. What trouble they cause themselves, those who try to persecute and oppose Spirit-filled believers!

2 Samuel 23:2 “The Spirit of the Lord spoke by me, and His word was on my tongue.”

David, the man after God’s heart declared by the Spirit of the Lord, that he spoke by Him and his tongue was controlled by the word of the Lord. This implies that the songs, music’s and the psalms were composed, sang and performed by Him in the man David. What a blissful glorious experience for today’s music believers to emulate to the glory of God Almighty in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

7

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – KINGS

1 Kings 18:12 “And it shall come to pass, as soon as I (Obadiah) am gone from you (Elijah), that the Spirit of the Lord will carry you to a place I do not know; so when I go and tell Ahab, and he cannot find you, he will kill me…”

Obadiah knew the dealings of the Spirit of God in the ministry of the prophet, like the wind that blows, where it is coming and going no one can tell (Jn. 3:8). As we desire to allow the Holy Spirit indwell us, no one should be able to predict our movement and intentions in life except Him and those who are also led by Him alone!

2 Kings 2:16 “…Please let them go and search for your master (Elijah) less perhaps the Spirit of the Lord has taken him up and cast him upon some mountain or valley. And he (Elisha) said, ‘You shall not send any one’”.

It seems the sons of the prophets were still immature students or they were rather mocking Elisha, one wonders how they can think of the Holy Spirit “taken up and cast” Elijah upon some dangerous places. Many believers have little or no knowledge of the Holy Spirit and can say anything that does not befit His personality. There is always room for learning when it comes to spiritual things; therefore, pride and arrogance should be totally excluded.

8

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – CHRONICLES

1 Chronicles 12:18 “Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, chief of the captains, and he said: We are yours, O David; we are on your side, o son of Jesse…”

Amazingly, loyalty and submission are the Spirit’s attributes in the believer’s life; we must exhibit same in our Christian character. With the Holy Spirit, there is no place for betrayal!

1 Chronicles 28:12 “…and the plans for all that he (David) had by the Spirit, of the house of the Lord, of all the chambers all around, of the treasures of the house of God, and all the treasuries of the dedicated things…”

The Holy Spirit gave the plans to David for everything about the temple which Solomon his son would build. That was a physical structure and arrangement. What plans have the present day believer received from the Holy Spirit about the Spiritual temple which we are?

2 Chronicles 15:1 “Now the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded”.

Each time the Spirit of God comes upon a person, there must be a specific job expected to be done. For Azariah in this passage, he was to warn king Asa, all Judah and Benjamin (v2). We should stop running up and down doing what He has not specifically sent us to do. Let us hear Him clearly guide us into all truth (Jn. 16:13).

2 Chronicles 20:14 “Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel the son of Zachariah …in the midst of the assembly”.

This was also for a specific message to the king of Judah, Jehoshaphat, “Do not be afraid nor dismay because of the great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.” (v15)

What encouragement, only by the Holy Spirit can such powerful pronouncement be made. Holy Spirit, our Helper, do your work in our lives in like manner, in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen!

2 Chronicles 24:20 “Then the Spirit of God came upon Zachariah the son of Jehoiada, the priest who stood above the people, and said to them …Because you have forsaken the Lord, He also has forsaken you.”

It is only by the Spirit’s prompting that the man of God can speak with such boldness to condemn the waywardness of a people. Let no human right activist and politicians overthrow or take the place of the prophets today in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen!

9

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – NEHEMIAH

Nehemiah 9:20 “You also gave your good Spirit to instruct them, and did not withhold your manna from their mouth, and gave them water for their thirst.”

Wow! The provision for food, water, clothes, health and sustenance of bountiful life even in the wilderness situation can always be adequately ascribed to the Holy Spirit. “They lacked nothing…” (v21).

The Holy Spirit’s instruction or teaching is vital in every life’s endeavor. For unfailing and sustainable divine perfection, we must love and need Him every day. (Jn. 14:26).

Nehemiah 9:30 “Yet for many years you had patience with them, and testified against them by the Holy Spirit in your prophets. Yet they would not listen….”

Here is where judgment is tempered with mercy; if insistent prophetic warnings by the Holy Spirit were not adhered to, God’s people become vulnerable to self, sin, death and the devil. (Verses 30-31). May the present day believer (church) strictly adhere to the open revelations and rebukes by the Holy Spirit through the chosen men of God in order to avert the on-going irritating apostasy among God’s people. Amen.

10

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – JOB

Job 26:13 “By the Spirit He adorned the heavens; His hand pierced the fleeing serpent.”

This confirms that the origin of creation was only possible by the Holy Spirit. The devil was overthrown and totally out-smarted when God finally sent His begotten Son to save humanity and restore us to our original position of dominion over His creation. The Spirit of God is our only source of strength and renewal.

Job 33:4 “The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.” (Note my comment above 26:13).

Our earthly and eternal survival is guaranteed by the Holy Spirit. One’s life can choke   into perpetual silence without Him. Let’s remain alive in Him! Amen.

11

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – PSALMS

PSALMS 51:11 “Do not cast me away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me…”

Psalms 51:12 “Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me by your generous Spirit.”

David’s prayer about the indwelling Spirit in these verses had been fulfilled for the present day believer by the promises of Christ in John 14:16; that the Spirit would “abide with you forever.” We should continue to enjoy His indwelling presence and His upholding, as we resist every temptation to grieve and or quench Him. Let us maintain the prayer; “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit abide with us now and evermore. Amen.”

Psalms 104:30 “You send forth your Spirit, they are created; and you renew the face of the earth.”

The Holy Spirit of creation, and still in the same operation. Sticking to Him renews everything about us constantly.

Psalms 139:7 “Where can I go from your Spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence?”

David was not wondering about the Holy Spirit he knew that God Himself was everywhere at the same time. These verses 7-12 take care of a wandering soul who is not acquainted with the Spirit’s companionship everywhere he goes. Read these verses 7-12 over and over until the Spirit’s knowledge is fully active in your lives. Amen!

Psalms 143:10 “Teach me to do your will, for you are my God: your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness.”

How can David ever forget about the goodness of the Spirit of the Lord who was upon him since the day he was anointed by Prophet Samuel. The life of David to some extend exhibited this understanding. He loved the enemy of his soul even when he had the opportunity to retaliate. (1Sam. 16:13; 26:7-9). We have never been deprived of God’s goodness by His Spirit; we should reciprocate such great favor by allowing Him to undertake the kingdom business through our lives of submission to Him always.

The five verses about the Holy Spirit in the book of psalms are directed to the believer’s spiritual ambition to work with Him all the time. It’s the best thing to do!

12

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – ISAIAH

Isaiah 11:2 “The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him (the Messiah), the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.”

Isaiah’s prophesy about the Holy Spirit was about Christ the King. Its fulfillment can never be disputed in the Spirit-filled believers!

Isaiah 30:1 “Woe to the rebellious children, …who take counsel, but not of me; and who devise plans, but not of my Spirit, that they may add sin to sin.”

Every plan made and executed without the Spirit’s initial involvement stands to be regretted. Let us not keep Him out of our plans in life! We must always remember to ask, ‘What is the Lord saying?’ before we embark on a project!

Isaiah 32:15 “Until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness becomes a fruitful field. And the fruitful field is counted as a forest.”

What supernatural undertaking by the Holy Spirit. When we seem to run out of hope in every regard once the Spirit of God comes upon us, the situation must change for good, until we “show His strength to this generation and His power to everyone that is to come.” (Ps. 71:18).

Isaiah 34:16 “Search from the book of the Lord and read…. For my mouth has commanded it, and His Spirit has gathered them.”

Actually, from all indication, the Holy Spirit is the chief facilitator for divine pronouncements and performances. It is by the Holy Spirit’s prompting that the one is able to hear the Lord’s word which produces the expected results. The same sequence took place at creation in (Gen.1:2, 3). Lets us follow the same pattern and approach every day.

Isaiah 40:13 “Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord or as His counselor has taught Him?”

We must remain subject to Him, and not the other way round. But this is what has caused a major setback in the church today. (Read 30:1 again please).

Isaiah 42:1 “Behold! My servant whom I uphold, I elect one in whom my soul delights! I have put my Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles.”

Here is another Messianic prophecy by Isaiah. Of course, the Lord Jesus has fulfilled His role of a Savior, King and Priest for our sake. In fact He handed over His earned victory to us in order for us to enforce the kingdom citizenship rights upon the earth. It is only by the Spirit’s power that we ought to achieve it!

Isaiah 44:3 “For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, and floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants and my blessings on your offspring…”

The promise of the Holy Spirit is hereby prophesied by Isaiah. Every believing and expectant heart must experience not only the fulfilling and outpour of the promise but also the endless overflow. Oh how I love and need Him to fully function in me thus “out of my heart will flow rivers of living water…” (Jn.7:38-39). Why don’t you abandon or get rid of religious and denominational barriers and enter into the overflow promised experience with this profound great gentle Personality who will always present us as vessels unto God’s honor before the ears and eyes of this generation?!

Isaiah 48:16 “Come near me, hear this: I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, I was there. And now the Lord God and His Spirit have sent me.”

The speaker in this verse is the Lord Himself (see also verse 12) right from the genesis of all things, He had always wanted humanity to be acquainted with Him so well. Here we are intimated of the combined divine operation “and now the Lord God and His Spirit have sent me” (see v17). He is our Teacher and Guide (Jn.14:26; 16:13). Why don’t we fully rely on Him for everything the rest of our lives?

Isaiah 59:19 “So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and His glory from the rising of the sun; when the enemy comes like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him.”

Certainly, the fear of God must befall the wicked from every direction, especially when the Holy Spirit is present to frustrate their stormy and flooding plans against us.

Isaiah 59:21 “As for me, says the Lord, this is my covenant with them; My Spirit who is upon you, and my words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your descendants, nor from the mouth of your descendants’ descendants, says the Lord, from this time and for evermore.”

The covenant that shall never fail because God made it: “My Spirit who is upon you (me),” personally I will never allow this to slip off my life, I must guide it jealously until the Lord’s return, in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen and Amen!

Isaiah 61:1 “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor, He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound…”

The pattern of the ministry of Jesus is hereby prophesied, and fulfilled by Christ’s personal declaration (Luke 4:18). It was by the Holy Spirit that the ministry of Jesus was inaugurated and carried out. What ministry can succeed without this pattern and approach? None! Hence the unavoidable necessity to return to Christ-like pattern of ministry.

Isaiah 63:10 “But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit; so He turned Himself against them as an enemy, and He fought against them.”

Should this not be frightening to believers of our day? To rebel against and grieve the Holy Spirit is tantamount to forfeiting divine protection and making God Himself to act as an enemy against us. We should not allow God Himself to fight us because of our deliberate neglect of the Holy Spirit’s guidance and instruction. God lays much emphasis on our relationship with the Holy Spirit for His irreplaceable role in our various personal and cooperate service. No wonder, blasphemy against Him is unpardonable. We must develop and protect the integrity of our friendship with Him in Jesus’ name. Amen.

The numerous verses about the Holy Spirit in the Book Isaiah indicate that he was the only one in the Old Testament, that by the Holy Spirit, he prophesied more about the Messiah. We can become very pronounced even today, if we pay very close attention to this divine Personality. Our intimacy with Him makes us great witnesses unto Christ our Lord!

The Holy Spirit in the bible – EZEKIEL

Ezekiel 2:2 “Then the Spirit entered me when He spoke to me and set me upon my feet and I heard Him who spoke to me.”

You can know the entrance of the Spirit into you; you can hear Him speak to you; and you can know what He does with you “set me on my feet.” All these were necessary to Ezekiel for the work God had assigned him to do (Read verses 3-10).

Ezekiel 3:12 “The Spirit lifted me up, and I hear behind me a great thunderous voice: Blessed is the glory of the Lord from His place.”

You can know the lifting up of the Spirit, hear the frightening sound of His voice He declares the blessing of His glory.

Ezekiel 3:14 “So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit; but the hand of the Lord was strong upon me.”

The Holy Ghost lifted Ezekiel up, took him away from where he was to a destination (v 15).

You may feel the tension and anxiety of the human spirit within, but as long as the strong hand of the Lord remains on you, your mission must be accomplished. Amen!

Ezekiel 3:24 “Then the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet, and spoke to me and said to me: ‘Go, shut yourself inside your home’”.

Ezekiel repeats the process of the dealing of the Spirit with him, but here there is an additional commitment assigned for him to do; to shut himself in the house; this could be the same Holy Spirit message for you now, you might have been roaming and lingering about in despair and hopelessness. Do it now, do not procrastinate any longer. Sure He is talking to you right now!

Ezekiel 8:3 “…and the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven, and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem…”

Another experience of a practical lifting up, Ezekiel was suspended between earth and heaven and carried to Jerusalem. As stewards in the vineyard, we must avail ourselves and desire divine transport to our designated duty posts.

Ezekiel 11:1 “Then the Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the East gate of the Lord’s house …And there at the door of the gate were twenty five men…”

Here the Holy Ghost took Ezekiel to a particular entrance of the house of the Lord and showed him some people (vs. 2). As we remain sensitively faithful to the leading of the Holy Spirit, wickedness must surely be exposed in the church today in the name of Jesus. Amen!

Ezekiel 11:5 “Then the Spirit of the Lord fell upon me, and said to me, Speak! Thus you have said, Oh house of Israel; for I know the things that come into your mind.”

Thank God for His Spirit’s gift of discerning and exposing hidden hearts intentions (vs. 6-7)  (see comment on 11:1).

Ezekiel 11:24 “Then the Spirit of the Lord took me up and brought me in a vision by the Spirit of God into Chaldea, to those in captivity…”

The Holy Spirit is the power-transporter. With him there should be no struggles and stress for passport and visa acquisitions. Praise the Lord, He is taking me to the nations to win souls and make disciples in Jesus’ Name. Amen!

Ezekiel 36:27 “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statues, and you will keep My judgments and do them.

What a covenant keeping God! He fulfils His word only by His Spirit; He gives a new heart and puts a new Spirit (vs26). He is sufficiently gracious to take our place in the contract to ensure our fulfillment and satisfaction. Amen!

Ezekiel 37:1 “The hand of the Lord came upon me and brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones.”

Ezekiel might have  felt the laying of the hand of the Lord and realized His supernatural transport in the Spirit to one of his most challenged mission location; the valley of dry bones! God’s consecrated and sanctified instrument must be ever ready to be sent to most dreaded and impossible mission fields. He knows and you know too, that He is the giver of life in abundance (Jn. 10:10) and nothing is impossible with Him. By His mighty Spirit’s move there is no no-go area for us in Jesus Name. Amen!

Ezekiel 37:14 “I will put My Spirit in you, and you shall live,  and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I, the Lord, have spoken it and performed it, says the Lord.”

This is similar to Gods pronouncement in Ezekiel 36:27. As we continue to remain conscious of His forever abiding Spirit’s presence, we shall obviously remain alive and possess our Kingdom citizenship inheritance.

Ezekiel 39:29 “And I will not hide My face from them any more for I shall have poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel, says the Lord.”

What a thrilling promise! Of course His Spirit has been out poured on us. And what a divine privilege of working in His result oriented glorious confinements!

Ezekiel 43:5 “The Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court; and behold, the glory of the Lord filled the temple.”

Hallelujah! The Spirit’s lifting ushers into divine inner chambers, yes, into the deep things of God where His inevitable glory fully occupies our entirety! This scenario maintains a fulfilled ministry. Amen (Read verses 5-7).

14

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – JOEL

Joel 2:28-29 “And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. And also on My men servants on My maidservants I will pour out my Spirit in those days.”

The promise of the Holy Spirit’s out pour is already fulfilled. We are enjoying His flowing gifts, diversities of activities, ministry gifts, fruit bearing and inexhaustible blessings. But ignorance and rebellion have deprived many from these kingdom rights (1Cor 12). My mustard seed faith answered prayer is that as you read these verses, you will be miraculously exempted from such depravity in Jesus Name. Amen!

15

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – MICAH

Micah 2:7 “You who are named the house of Jacob: Is the Spirit of the Lord restricted? Are these His doings? Do not my words do good to him who walk uprightly?”

A million dollar question and a resounding one of the millennium! “Is the spirit of the Lord restricted?” Never! He remains very actively relevant to those who are ready to be committed to His relentless friendship.

Micah 3:8 “But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the Lord, and of justice and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression and to Israel.

One is reminded of the words of Jesus “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you…” (Acts 1:8). What follows is the pronouncement and witness about the way, truth and life. The abominable atrocities among believers (churches) and society today must be exposed, arrested and sentenced to perpetual silence in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

16

The Holy Spirit in the Bible –HAGGAI

Haggai 2:5 “According to the word that I covenanted with you when you come out of Egypt, so My Spirit remains among you; do not fear.”

To be frank, when I come across a scripture like this one, I admit my fallacious stand point about the Holy Spirit! Let us just pray that His mercy endures forever, and let Him guide us into all truth in Jesus’ Name. Amen. You see, that distant Egypt covenant, still makes the ever abiding presence of the Holy Spirit relevant in our time. Did I hear you say, “What about the new covenant in the Blood of Jesus Christ?” Yes, it is a greater enforcement and fulfillment. Let us keep drinking from His non-stop fountain, so that “Out of our belly (hearts) shall flow rivers of living water.” (Jn. 7:39). Let me not forget, with the Holy Spirit ever increasing intimacy, FEAR IS RULED out of our lives! Amen!

17

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – ZECHARIAH

Zechariah 4:6 “…This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: not by might nor by power but by My Spirit, says the Lord.”

Nothing ever can take the place of the Holy Spirit; in other words there is no substitute for Him!

Zechariah 12:10 “And I will pour on the house of David, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication, then they will look on Me whom they pierced….”

This happens to be the last verse on the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament. The function of the Holy Spirit here is that of causing God’s people to acknowledge the one they hated to the point of death. People’s rejection of the truth never stops His Spirit’s promptings and probe into lives, until some day the wind of change becomes inevitable. Lord, help us by your ever abiding Spirit to win souls and make disciples of all nations in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

THE NEW TESTAMENT

18

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – MATTHEW

Mathew 1:18, 20 “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows:

After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, and before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.”

Joseph did not know this, so “…was minded to put her away secretly.” (v19).

Matthew 1:20 “But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, and saying, ‘….Do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.”

You see? The eternal purpose of God to send into the world a savior was impossible without the Holy Spirit. Out of nothing the Holy Spirit brings forth the Super Character named Jesus. There is no better way of starting the New Testament without the Holy Spirit. This forms the strongest eagle wings that will transport us into the rest of the New Testament. Let us carry on!

Mathew 3:11 “I indeed baptize you with the water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I … He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”

I have noticed the sequence in the Holy Spirit’s order of presenting Himself to us. First, we have Christ introduced in His conception and Birth, by the Holy Spirit and now we have Him being presented as the one who baptizes us with the Holy Spirit. So the one whose arrival on the scene was by the Holy Spirit, He is the only qualified to introduce or intimate us into the Spirit’s occupied life. Therefore, the way we relate with Jesus determines our union with the Holy Spirit.

Mathew 3:16 “When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.”

Although the Lord’s coming into the world and His role of administering power were characterized by the Holy Spirit’s operation, yet He is to be baptized both in water and the same Holy Spirit. What emphatic equipping of the Son for the most critical mission which God Almighty could not do without this type of arrangement.

Mathew 4:1 “Then Jesus was led up by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.”

The Holy Spirit’s equipping is unavoidably accompanied by the highest contender with the Highest Authority. But the enemy of God will continue to fight in futility as long as the Holy Ghost is involved in our warfare. The battle is the Lord’s!

Mathew 10:20 “For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of the Father who speaks in you.”

This still confirms that the Holy Spirit is our advocate and defender in the midst of adversity. “For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak…” (v19)

Mathew 12:18 “Behold! My servant whom I have chosen, my beloved in whom my soul is well pleased! I will put my Spirit upon Him, and He will declare justice to the Gentiles.”

This quotation is from Isaiah42:1, (see comment).

Mathew 12:28 “But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the Kingdom has come upon you.”

Mathew 12:31 “Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men.”

Mathew 12:32 “Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come”.

Commenting on the verses together is deliberate. Jesus was addressing a blasphemous contention against Him and the Holy Spirit. How can the Son of God be accused of casting demons by Beelzebub, the chief off all demons? There is no controversy, even today our Lord cast out demons by the Holy Ghost, and so the Kingdom of God is upon us with its accompanied rights and privileges, but for His accusers, with non-forgiving eternal judgment! May we never question the performing integrity of the servant of God whose work is strictly by the Holy Spirit!

Mathew 22:43 “He said to them; How then does David in the Spirit call Him Lord…”

Another scourge that must be settled is here; attributing the Sonship of Jesus to David. The argument is settled by David’s declaration in the Holy Ghost (verses 44-45). Truly speaking, the Holy Spirit is the only all in all, who settles controversies no matter what nature they bear!

Matthew 28:19 “Go there and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

Baptizing in the name of the Holy Spirit is what concerns us here! The Lord Jesus handed over the authority bestowed on Him (vs. 18-20) to us to also baptize in the Holy Spirit. The experiences and ministry of the apostles testify to that truth. (See the Holy Spirit in the Book of Acts).

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – MARK

Most of the account of the gospel writers on the Holy Spirit bears the same message. It will not be necessary to comment on verses with such similarity. However the reader is advised to read through the verses without being bored, make it an interesting exercise!

Mark1:8 “I indeed baptize you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” (Mathew 3:11).

Mark 1:10 “And immediately, coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove”

Mark 1:12 “Immediately the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness.”

Mark 3:29 “…but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit: never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation” (Mathew 12:28-32).

Mark 12:36 “For David himself said by the Holy Spirit: ‘the Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand, till I make your enemies your footstool.” (Mathew 22:43).

Mark 13:11 “But when they arrest you and deliver you up, do not worry before hand, or premeditate what you will speak. But whatever is given you in that hour, speak that, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.” (Mathew 10:20).

20

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – LUKE

Luke 1:15 “For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.”

The prediction of John the Baptist by the angel of the Lord to Zacharias (verses 13-16); that John “will be great in the sight of the Lord” is not always noted. Every Spirit filled and anointed believer, whatever people’s consideration about him, is not really the matter; he is great in the sight of God. The restriction placed on the life-style of John, should also be strictly observed by all God’s stewards or else the Spirit led ministry will suffer shipwreck! May God forbid it, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Luke 1:35 “And the angel answered and said to her, the Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the highest will over shadow you; therefore also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.”

The Holy Spirit comes with power from on high. When He overshadows or brood upon a person, and situation, there must be undisputable and glorious outcome. Obviously the coming of Jesus by the Holy Spirit was the most glorious and amazing event ever in history!

Luke 1:41 “And it happened when Elizabeth heard the greetings of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.”

The child in Mary’s womb was conceived by the Holy Spirit; Mary was actually carrying the Holy Spirit within her. Amazingly, Mary’s contact with Elizabeth by means of greeting only, the baby in her responded by the same Spirit and she was filled with the Holy Spirit. I believed we can as well impact and influence our children even before they were born and parents be filled with the Holy Spirit, if only we are conscious of His ever abiding presence in our lives.   Simple communication in the Holy Spirit can make others be filled with the same Spirit.

Luke 1:67 “Now his father Zachariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied…”

The Spirit of God in the child Jesus did not only touch the mother of John, but also the father, Zacharias. Such Holy Ghost coordination was necessary for the ministries of John and Jesus. They had a collaborative ministry which must be established and enhance by the Holy Spirit (3:3-6). I believe we need this kind of spiritual relationship among one another for our ministries to be successful.

Luke 2:25-27 “….And this man was just and devout …and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord Christ. So he came by the Spirit into the temple…”

Once there is the right attitude of being just and devoted to God’s service, the Holy Spirit can come upon us (vs.25). He can reveal to us that we cannot see death until our God’s given work is fully done (vs.26) and we can as well go to the house of God to worship by the Holy Spirit all the time (vs.27).

Luke 3:16 “John answered, saying to all, I indeed baptized you with water, but one mightier than I is coming …He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” (Mathew 3:11).

Luke 3:22 “And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, ‘You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.” (Mathew 3:16).

Luke 4:1“Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness.” (Mathew 4:1)

Luke 4:14 “Then Jesus returned in the power of the Holy Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through the entire surrounding region.”

Wow! There is nothing effective in the ministry like to go and come in always in the power of the Holy Spirit. It creates great popularity far and wide. And it ultimately glorifies God. Is there any glory ascribed to the Almighty God when any Servant of God seeks popularity through demonic means? This trend of self seeking fame attracts nothing but shame, tragedy and God’s judgment. Let’s return to the Holy Spirit, the only genuine source of power from high.

Luke 11:13 “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”

God is loving and faithful in His dealing with humanity much more than earthly parents do to their children. Though the promise of the Holy Spirit had been given, but the heart that desires, places a special demand about Him, and respond from on high will always remain “take it, He is a free gift to all.” It is not wrong to demand for your promised inheritance as a kingdom citizen. In fact, I see it as keeping in constant touch with our heavenly Father, if we always place demands for the Spirit’s baptism, anointing, infilling, ever abiding presence and overflow, as the case may be required by our individual personal needs. Surely our heavenly Father must be very pleased with such relationships.

Luke 12:10 “And anyone who speaks a word against the Son of man, it will be forgiven him; but to him who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven.” (Mathew 12:32).

Luke 12:12“For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.” (Mathew 10:20).

Luke 24:49 “Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

The condition Jesus gave to the disciples to send the promise was for them to tarry until the endowment comes. The promise was unfailing, but the tarrying was also necessary. There are no short cuts to spiritual equipping and empowerment. (Acts 2).

21

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – JOHN

John 1:32 “And John bore witness, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove and He remained upon Him.” (Mathew 3:16).

John 1:33 “…upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit (Mathew 3:11).

John 3:5 “Jesus answered, most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.”

John 3:6 “That which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the Spirit is Spirit.”

John 3:8 “The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes, so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

The three verses above are the Born Again references connected with the Holy Spirit. It is the prerequisite for inheriting the kingdom of heaven. I do not doubt that many believers need to sincerely pass through the Holy Ghost rebirth or regeneration to truly obtain Christian faith assurance and confidence as the kingdom citizens. This is one of the reasons that informed the publication of this book. If your challenge is spiritual deficiency, do not stop reading this book, because it is the hand book for the work of God by His Spirit.

John 3:34  “For He whom God has sent, speak the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure.”

It is truly, very astonishing work for men to represent God Almighty in speech. However, His immeasurable gift of the Holy Spirit gets the job effectively done. “Is the Spirit of the Lord restricted?” (Micah 2:7).

John 4:14 “But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

The fountain of water springing up into eternal life refers to the Holy Spirit’s outpour upon the believers. Its constant drink is the ceaseless flow which maintains the desired refreshing. Let us keep drinking in Jesus Name. Amen!

John 7:39 “But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.” (See vs.38 before 39 and 4:14).

In our time, Jesus had already been glorified and the Holy Spirit given. We have been in the dispensation of the Holy Spirit and now having a greater expectation for His next move, which is far beyond visions, prophecies and dreams (Joel 2:28-29). This next Holy Ghost move is best described in Haggai 2:5-9. These prophetic declarations must come to past!

John 14:16 “And I will pray the Father and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever.”

John 14:17 “The Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”

The promise of another Helper is already fulfilled and He is here with us now. What wonderful love to experience the presence of the Living God by His Spirit. I love the emphasis on “abide with you forever”. (Vs.16) and “He dwells with you and will be with you”. (vs.17) we see and know Him performing great mysteries in our personal lives and ministries. The prayer now is, “we desire the whole of Him to fully function in our Christian lives, so that we can be identified as truly Christ-like in our daily life’s endeavors.

John 14:26 “But the Helper the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”

This is one of my favorite verses about the Holy Spirit in the gospel of John. We can clearly notice His thrilling functions of teaching and reminding us of all things about the word of God. These equipping makes us versatile in ministry. When we allow Him to play the role of the Helper in our lives we will never be disappointed.

John 15:26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of me.”

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God Himself: Christ sends Him from the Father and He proceeds from Him. He testifies of Christ in our ministries. He is the actual minister of God in us. We should stop saying “my ministry, church etc.” we should ascribe and accord all achievements to Him (vs.27).

John 16:7 “…it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.”

John 16:8 “And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin and of righteousness, and of judgement…”

I am urged to admit that these two verses are very pivotal to the ministry of Jesus Christ. Everything that was to our advantage, He will do it. But the coming of the Holy Spirit to us placed a serious demand for His departure to heaven. The most important thing the Son of God came to achieve is to rid the world of sin, yet the Holy Spirit must be involved to convict by the world, so also our consciousness of divine judgment is by the Holy Spirit’s conviction! Jesus had to go for Him to come.

John 16:13 “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak of His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak.”

John 16:14 “He will glorify me, for He will take of what is mine and declare it to you.”

Just like John 16:7-8, this passage is another favorite. The Spirit of truth comes, and the truth is Christ. He will guide us into all truth, that is, we are being directed to Christ who is the way, truth and life. The Spirit communicates to us what the heavens converse and so we are fully informed to divine arrangements we must strictly follow!

John 20:22 “And when He had said this, He breathed on them; and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’”

For us to still confirm, Christ is the giver of, and baptizes with the Holy Spirit, He breathed on them and declared; ‘Receive the Holy Spirit’. This is an impartation of authority to forgive people their sins. It is important that believers today should make the best use of this divine mandate to win the world to God in Jesus’ Name. Amen

We are never deprived of the Holy Spirit, we can also declare to people: “Receive the Holy Spirit” and they too will be equipped for the onward expansion of the Kingdom of Heaven on earth.

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – ACTS

PART A.

Acts 1:2  “Until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostle whom He had chosen.”

Jesus instructed the apostles through the Holy Spirit. As believers, whenever we speak, it should be by the same Spirit of God!

Acts 1:5  “For John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

This is the confirmation of what gospel writers said. It is shocking when some people in the faith do not take these words of Jesus serious. This is a Spiritual necessity which if ignored makes a tragedy of one’s faith in Christ Jesus.

Acts 1:8  “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses unto me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Here is a continued emphasis on obtaining power by the Holy Spirit, it is simply standing firm on the truth. It is by this that ministry becomes genuine and knows no bounds. This “ends-of-the earth” journey defies the struggles of acquisition of all travelling documents. Let us get serious about the Holy Spirit and the transport ends up easy. We are to witness unto Christ. The essence is to tell the world the truth and nothing but the truth. This must require evidence or proofs of the ministry of Christ in us. Remember Christ is the baptizer, and giver of the Holy Spirit and His power. Let us learn to allow Him proof and substantiate His works and the greater works in us! (Jn. 14:12).

Acts 1:16  “…this scripture had to be fulfilled which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus.”

Prophesies declared by the Holy Spirit are always true and they come to pass. That is why true servants of God are said to be known by their fruits!

Acts 2:4 “They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

Recall what Jesus told the disciples in Acts 1:4-5. The practical reality was recorded here! Did it end at Jerusalem that day? Certainly not! Believers must always take note of this; we are bound to acknowledge the fact that the church should always be in the dispensation of the Holy Spirit. The emphasis is on the Holy Spirit not on Pentecost. (The terminology and its usage, Pentecostal, is not only misleading but erroneous. Pentecost is a Jewish harvest feast also referred to as the feast of weeks. (Lev. 23:15-22). It was on their Jewish feast day that the promise of the Holy Spirit was fulfilled to the apostles) (verse 2-4). The Lord Jesus predicted it as an aspect of His fulfillment of the Law and Prophets.

The Holy Spirit should be given His prominence and rightful place in our individual vessels or temples for the enhancement, promotion and enforcement of God’s plan for the church to reign with Christ here on earth, and ultimately in the heavenly kingdom!

Acts 2:17-18   “And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh… I will pour out my Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy…”

Reference must be made to the prophecy of Joel 2:28-32 to defend every legitimate move or out pour of the Holy Spirit. This was Peter’s defense on the day they were baptized with the Holy Spirit. Since the Jews denied the Messiah, it was impossible for them to welcome any message from His loyalist. However, whether they approved of this or not, the Jewish religious system and tradition was under severe threat. Yes, we all know that the Holy Spirit is the Grand Master for regeneration and total transformation. So also, our present generation is passing through divine scrutiny, it is being confronted headlong by the Holy Spirit’s stirring and subsequent revolution that can never be stopped!

Acts 2:33  “…and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.”

The promise came from God the Father through Christ Jesus. Jesus poured out the Holy Spirit on that day. I do not doubt that He has not given up on that special duty for our sake today.

Acts 2:38  “Then Peter said to them, ‘Repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’”

First, repent. Receive Christ, be baptized in His name for remission of sins, and receive the Holy Spirit. There should be no controversy about the pattern and process of the Holy Spirit’s out pour on believers.

Acts 2:39  “For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

This debunks the view and argument about the termination of miracles and the activities by the gifts of the Holy Spirit with the apostles.

Acts4:8  “Then Peter filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, ‘Rulers of the people and elders of Israel.’”

Where the guts, if it were not the Holy Spirit for Peter to address Rulers and Elders, the people he could not face during the trials of Jesus. Now he stood bold by the Holy Spirit.

Fear and timidity must flee at the presence and the dauntless authority and power of the Holy Spirit in the believer (church) today.

Acts 4:31  “And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.”

Even the physical and natural environment always reacts where the presence of the Holy Spirit becomes eminent. (Acts 2:2-3). It tells also that nothing created can resist the power and authority of the Holy Spirit. He makes us bold in the face of conflict, persecution and intimidation.

Acts 5:3  “But Peter said, ‘Ananias, why has Satan filled you heart to lie to the Holy Spirit to keep back part of the price of the land for yourself?’”

Satan’s strategy is to have us blaspheme against the Holy Spirit, because it is the sin that cannot be forgiven. Lying against the Holy Spirit is likely to amount to such an offence. I have always wondered why Ananias had to be struck dead instantly before the apostles! Once believers are truly in one accord, the Holy Spirit’s abiding presence places a bond between them and an attempt to break it constitutes a terrible offence. I pray that God will continue to have mercy on me to remain firmly connected with His Spirit in Jesus’ Name.

Acts 6:10  “And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit by which he (Stephen) spoke.”

It does not really matter, what the highest degree of philosophical sophistication of the most intelligent that has the audacity to withstand the most humble Holy Spirit filled and yielded person’s wisdom. So no matter your professional intellectual abilities, still align with the Holy Ghost for a long lasting result in life!

Acts 7:51  “You stiff-neck and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fore fathers did, so do you.”

Can anything stop the pronouncement against the present day christo-polito-religious set up? May God have mercy on us in Jesus name Amen!

Acts 7:55 “But he (Stephen) being full of the Holy Spirit gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God…”

It is only by the Holy Spirit that we are able to see the open heaven, and the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. But this must not necessarily be at the point of death like in the case of Stephen here.

Acts 8:15-17  “…when they (Peter and John) had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. For as yet he had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.”

These were Christians who had not received the Holy Spirit, so prayer was offered for them to receive Him. Most church people including the clergy need the Holy Ghost attention today.

Acts 8:18 “And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, saying, ‘Give me this power also, anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.’”

Power is good. But the Holy Ghost power and anointing cannot be purchased with money. Only counterfeit power is on sale. Many “men of God” have not learnt the lesson in this passage. They have fallen prey into the end time open grave of the devil. Why do you spend money on what is freely given? Just follow the right process to obtain the mercy of God and to be fully equipped by His Spirit for His work.

Acts 8:29 “Then the Spirit said to Philip, ‘go near and overtake this chariot…”

Acts 8:39 “Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more; and he went his way rejoicing.”

The Lord saw the religious Ethiopian struggling to understand scripture. Philip was sent to him by the Holy Spirit’s intimation. In the Holy Spirit you can over take a fast moving chariot. The point is, get to the place of assignment by the Holy Ghost transport and get the job done! After the baptism of the Eunuch, the Holy Spirit took Philip to another region. As long as we remain submissive to the Holy Spirit guidance, our journey to ministry destinations will always be easy, without stress and effective.

ACTS Part B

Acts 9:17 “…Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road  as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”

Paul’s encounter with Jesus left him changed but blind. The next thing that was important to his life and ministry was for him to receive not only the physical but spiritual sight to be accompanied by being filled with the Holy Spirit. The making of every spiritual giant like Paul is marked by such a humble beginning. Therefore let us not shy away from admitting our inadequacies and seek God’s help by the Holy Spirit.

Acts 9:31  “Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and were edified. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied.”

Paul’s commitment in ministry was responsible to this wonderful standard set for the present day church to follow. What standard or example is your own life style and ministry setting for today’s generation to follow?

Acts 10:38 “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God with Him.”

Permit me to suggest that this is the most profound passage about the Holy Spirit in the entire Bible. Verse 37 talks about the ministry of baptism by John and “…how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power.” This was the baptism of the Holy Spirit for Jesus. Jesus the Son of God is the only person for our imitation. Yet He had to be anointed with the Holy Spirit and with power to be able to heal all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. Now, how can the followers of Jesus do his work effectively without the same Holy Spirit’s anointing on them? To desire the baptism, anointing and or infilling of the Holy Spirit is the only power alternative for every believer.

Acts 10:44-47 “While Peter was still speaking these words the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word… because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then peter answered ‘Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?’”

While Peter preached in Cornelius’ house, the Holy Spirit fell on the listeners who were Gentiles that is non-Jews. Whoever you are, the Holy Spirit is for all people regardless of tribe, religion and status. One’s submission to Him provides the necessary condition for the Spirit’s out pour upon him.

Acts 11:12 “Then the Spirit told me to go with them, doubting nothing…”

Acts 11:15 “And I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning.”

In our total submission to Him, he can speak to us, doubting nothing. Just like He fell upon the believers in the past, He will continue to do so as long as people believe in Him.

Acts 11:16 “Then I remember the word of the Lord, how He said, ‘John indeed baptized with water but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’”

The outpour of the Holy Spirit upon people will always remind us of the difference between the baptism of John from that of Jesus Christ.

Acts 11:24 “For he (Barnabas) was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord.”

Genuine increase comes in ministry by the Holy Spirit and faith. Today there are multitudes in churches but unfortunately not by the Holy Spirit. Many believers do not know whether they are led by the Holy Spirit, let alone to be sure of their spiritual adoption as sons of God.

Acts 11:28 “Then one of them, named, Agabus, stood up and showed by the Spirit that there was going to be a great famine through the entire world…”

The prediction about natural happenings is possible by the Holy Spirit.

Acts 13:2 “As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Now separate to me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.’”

Ministering to the Lord has to do with praise, worship, prayer and fasting in Spirit and Truth; doing this faithfully makes the Holy Spirit to speak back to His people or instruct us on what we must do at difficult times.

Acts 13:4 “So being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia…”

Who sent you to where you are going or where you are now? The Holy Spirit or your pastor, ministry, denomination etc? You are into a self-seeking ministry if you are only obedient to people and not to God!

Acts 13:9  “Then Saul, who also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him (Sorcerer)”.

It is by the Holy Spirit that evil men are exposed and sentenced to divine punishment.

Acts 13:52 “And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.”

Even in the midst of opposition and difficulty, we can still be filled with joy and the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Acts 15:8 “So God, who knows the heart, acknowledged them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He did to us.”

Wonderful! God’s acknowledgement of all, gives the Holy Spirit to all whose hearts are right before Him!

Acts 15:28 “For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden…”

It is by the Holy Spirit we are able to know what is right for others and becomes truly our brother’s keepers.

Acts 16:6-7 “…they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia… They tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them.”

The Holy Spirit guides to priority mission fields. Many have made a choice of mission fields on their own selfish accord; that is not Gods work!

Acts 19:2 “…he said to them, Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed? So they said to him, ‘We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.’”

This is a good question many Christians should answer sincerely. You can be saved and not know the Holy Spirit. This kind of Christianity can be frustrating, ineffectively and powerless. Let me stress with much concern at this point; some churches or ministries have ignored and turned down everything about the Holy Spirit. And they have left members of their assemblies starved and spiritually bankrupt. Many Pastors must first seek the Holy Ghost orientation before they can effectively resume their genuine pastoral responsibilities.

Acts 19:6 “And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, they spoke with tongues and prophesied.”

When believers acknowledge their need for the Holy Spirit and yield to Him, prayer and laying on of hands can be ministered to them and they can be filled or the Holy Spirit falls or be poured on them!

Acts 20:23 “…expect that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulation awaits me.”

Here the Holy Spirit warns Paul ahead of time of what would befall him. The Holy Spirit has not changed; our intimacy and sensitivity of Him can make us know His warning of every forth coming danger. O, what a wonderful comforter is the Holy Spirit!

Acts 20:28 “Therefore, take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the whole church of God which He purchased with His own blood.”

What a heart warming reminder and warning! It is by the Holy Spirit we are called, made overseers or shepherds; we are Gods caretakers of His blood purchased church. Careless and self-seeking heed to this divine injunction is tantamount to severe eternal judgment!

Acts 21:4 “And finding disciples, we stayed there seven days. They told Paul through the Spirit not to go up to Jerusalem.”

Impending trouble awaited Paul in Jerusalem. They told him by the Holy Ghost not to go there. By the same Spirit the journey in the Christian race can be directed appropriately. The Church should desist from making man-made committee decisions for Spiritual matters. We must all return to the Spirit’s instruction and guidance for clear direction.

Acts 21:11 “…Thus says the Holy Spirit, ‘So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man who owns this belt…’” (see comment on 21:4 above).

Acts 28:25 “…Paul had said one word ‘The Holy Spirit spoke right through Isaiah the prophet to our fathers…’”

Paul was making reference to Isaiah’s prediction by the Holy Spirit against this rebellious generation. What a frightening prophecy! Let us pray that we are not caught up by it in Jesus Name. Amen.

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – ROMANS

Romans 5:5 “Now, hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”

The love of God by the Holy Ghost, finds the right place in our hearts, without the Holy Spirit, there is no genuine love!

Romans 8:2 “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.”

It is only the Holy Spirit that the power of sin and death is made null and void in our lives. Hallelujah!

Romans 8:4 “That the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”

Romans 8:5 “For those who walk in the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.”

Romans 8:9-11 “But you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if any one does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”

The ever abiding Spirit led life is an awesome embodiment of irrevocable power packed fulfillment. Let us never compromise our stand for this glorious life style in Jesus Name. Amen!

Romans 8:13-14 “For if you live according to the flesh you will die! But if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. …For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God.”

There are so much rooms and opportunities for whosoever wants to be called God’s child. Avail yourself to the Spirit-led life to qualify for the ample divine opportunities.

Romans 8:15-16 “For you did not receive the Spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba Father.’ The Spirit Himself bear witness with our spirit that we are children of God.”

Romans 8:23 “Now only that, but we also who have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.”

There is no end to desire of the Holy Spirit’s out pour; an experience once attained must be needed perpetually.

Romans 8:26-27 “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weakness. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groaning which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”

Our personal spirit beings are the only connecting or contact point with God’s Spirit. So be careful about every Christian teaching that fails to emphasize the practice of the gifts of the Holy Spirit!

Romans 9:1 “I tell the truth in Christ, I am not lying my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit.”

To tell the truth in Christ must be by the Holy Spirit, because He is the only guide into all truth (John 16:13). To bear witness from the heart and unto Christ is also by the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8).

Romans 14:17 “For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.”

Why the struggle to gather material things, eating, drinking and good living when so much durable and eternal riches can be obtain in righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit? Many have made a shipwreck of their calling by misappropriating the Scripture in the bid to prove a successful ministry. Return to mercy and the Holy Spirit for a successful redefined ministry schedule.

Romans 15:13 “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Great! Why don’t you personalize this prayer.  It will make the difference in everything you do because the Holy Spirit is involved!

Romans 15:16 “that I might be a minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering of the Gentiles might be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.”

May all servants of God say this about their individual ministries to whichever target mission groups in Jesus Name. Amen.

Romans 15:19 “In mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God so that from Jerusalem and around about Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.”

I see this as my prayer for every mission field and people God can use me to touch their lives for His kingdom’s sake. You can make it your prayer too. Amen!

Romans 15:30 “Now I beg you, brethren, through the Lord Jesus Christ, and through the love of the Spirit, that you strive together with me in prayers to God for me.”

A purposeful demand for intercession is on all of us, for one another through Christ, and not without the Holy Spirit’s ever abiding indwelling love and direction. Amen!

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – CORINTHIANS

1 Corinthians 2:4 “And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power.”

Oh, what humility to rely and depend solely on the Holy Spirit and power demonstration in ministry. May God help us by the Holy Spirit to fully imitate Paul here! Amen.

1 Corinthians 2:10 “But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yet the deep things of God.”

The secret things that are only God’s prerogative knowledge and power can be made known to us by the Holy Spirit. See why the necessity to return to Him in all things?

1Corinthians 2:11-13 “For what man knows the spirit of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so, no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.”

(So if the ever abiding presence of the Holy Spirit indwells the believer, he will be acquainted with the things of God, these are the Spiritual things).

1Corinthians 2:12 “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.

(See comments on 2:10 above).

1Corinthians 2:13 “These things we also speak not in words which man’s wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.”

The Holy Spirit is God’s great teacher of all things to us (John 14:26). Because we are God’s Spiritual adopted children, nothing spiritual should be strange to us. May our commitment to the Holy Spirit’s sensitivity and friendship increase, so that we will be more conversant with Him in all things. Amen and Amen!

1 Corinthians 2:14 “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God. For they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them because they are spiritually discerned.”

What a sharp contrast between the natural and the spiritual. That is why there is confusion and conflict among those who are radically Christ-like by the Holy Spirit with those who are lukewarmly Christ-like without the Holy Spirit. There can only be agreement when people operate in the same Spirit’s level!

1 Corinthians 3:16 “Do you know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”

My answer is yes, I know. What about you? If you still don’t know, then find out as you read this book prayerfully and with an unbiased heart. He will make Himself fully known to you in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen!

1 Corinthians 6:11 “And such were some of you. But were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.”

Read verses 9 and 10 in your Bible and get the connection with verse 11. Though washed, sanctified and justified in the name of Jesus, but must also be by the Holy Spirit. You see why many Christians wonder why they still struggle with sin? And truly, if they do not find fellowship with the Holy Spirit, they cannot see the kingdom of God let alone to enter it!

1 Corinthians 6:19 “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?” (See comment on 3:16).

Once you are serious with your Spirit-filled and led Christian life, you do not permit an intruder to interfere with the Holy Spirit’s program for your entire existence! You now know that the one in charge owns it all, “I am not my own, but God’s.”

1Corinthians 7:40 “But she is happier if she remains as she is, according to my judgment and I think I also have the Spirit of God.”

Paul was addressing a marital issue here (Read verse 39). Without the Holy Spirit, one cannot make a good marriage counselor. I am sure Paul did not sound presumptuous about his spiritual judgment. As a Spirit-filled and led believer, ones speech, decision and judgment should not be questioned! (Read 2:14).

1 Corinthians 12:3 “Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.”

Every mention of the name Jesus, not in the Holy Ghost, is mare flattering and lips service. Why do we cast out demons or (what many call deliverance) in the name of Jesus and yet we sweat for nothing? Let us examine the legitimacy of the pronouncement of the name Jesus, and see if it is done truly by the Holy Ghost! But because many preachers and believers are on their own, I mean without the Holy Spirit, they call Jesus accursed rather than a blessing. That is why many have turned to witchcraft, magic and familiar spirits, pretending to be calling the name of Jesus. May the Holy Spirit put a stop to this through the genuine ministries and expose all satanic manipulations in the church in the name of Jesus by the Holy Spirit. Amen!

1 Corinthians 12:4 “There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.”

1 Corinthians 12:7-9 “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the same Spirit.”

1 Corinthians 12:11 “But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.”

Also read verse 10 to have the complete list of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. How can the church be defined profitable without these nine gifts of the Holy Spirit? Oh, let Him work “all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills” Amen.

“As He wills” is not according to His wish, but the gifts are His will for us. He had willed them to us as joint heirs with Christ Jesus and His legitimate children who are led by His Spirit, Hallelujah. Amen!

1 Corinthians 12:13 “For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.”

You can see God’s love here; the Holy Spirit does not discriminate at all. He is not meant for some denomination and not for others, He is for us all who are “baptized into one body…” let us keep drinking into the same one Spirit of the Living God. Amen!

2 Corinthians 1:22 “Who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.”

Verse 21 says, “…He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us in God…” What great assurance of the fulfillment promise of the Holy Spirit abiding in us forever!

2 Corinthians 3:3,6 “Clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stones but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart. …who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”

What makes Paul’s expression about the Holy Spirit very explicit is because of the Holy Spirit in him, we are a letter by the Spirit of God written on the heart with express sufficiency to implement the new covenant of life by the same Holy Spirit. The gospel by head knowledge alone is dangerous, it kills! No wonder, there are so many dry bones in many church valleys because the letter not by the Spirit has destroyed them. They are in desperate need of the prophet by the Spirit to command a revival to their souls (Ez.37) in Jesus’ name. Amen!

2 Corinthians 3:8 “Now will the ministry of the Spirit not be more glorious?”

A self answered question. The ministry of the Holy Spirit is most glorious compared to others (verses 9-11).

2 Corinthians 3:17-18 “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled faces beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

I am restrained to make any comment on this passage, for fear of misrepresentation of the clarity it contains. This is clearly self explanatory.  Just read this over and over and commit it into memory.

2 Corinthians 5:5 “Now He who has prepared for us these things in God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.”

What things had been prepared for us by God? Certainly not evil things, for God is love. But the best of all that He has given us is the Holy Spirit as guarantee. By Him our success, victory and all-round achievements are guaranteed. Hallelujah!

2 Corinthians 6:6 “By purity, by knowledge, by long suffering, by kindness, by the Holy Spirit, by sincere love.”

How can these wonderful attributes be possible in one’s life without the mention of the Holy Spirit? We need Him very sincerely for our good works to be fully complete or perfect!

2 Corinthians 13:14 “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.”

Yes and indeed, Amen. A very wonderful way of concluding a message; both grace and love from the Lord Jesus and Father will hang in oblivion except by the communion (fellowship) of the Holy Spirit that they will all abide with us. This should also be an all round prayer and not only what is called, ‘the doxology’ in ecclesiastical circles! Once more, Amen!

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – GALATIANS

Galatians 3:2 “This only I want to learn from you: did you receive the Holy Spirit by the works of the law or by the hearing of faith?”

Yes the Holy Spirit is always received by the faith and paying close attention to the word, produces the faith.

Galatians 3:3 “Are you so foolish? Having began in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect in the flesh?”

It is damn foolishness to know the works of the Holy Spirit and turn to the flesh for perfection. If genuine achievement was not obtained by the Holy Spirit, just forget it!

Galatians 3:14 “…that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”

Abraham was known of his faith which was imputed unto him as righteousness. His blessing for us is the covenant of faith. By this faith we can receive the most valuable gift of God, the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 4:6 “And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, Abba Father!”

The greatest birthday gift to the heart of each God’s son is the Spirit of Jesus. By the same Holy Ghost we are able to call God our Father. Therefore stop calling His name in vain!

Galatians 4:29 “But, as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, even so it is now.”

Well, this had always been the story. God’s children, born according to the Spirit, filled and led by Him, have always been persecuted. No matter what the opposition against us, we remain, more than conquerors in Christ Jesus by the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Galatians 5:5 “For we through the Spirit, eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.”

Without the Holy Spirit our “hope of righteousness by faith” remains a mirage!

Galatians 5:16-18 “I say then, walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the flesh. For the flesh lust against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.”

No one can subject the Spirit filled and led person under any form of law or judgment. May the Holy Spirit keep the perfect rule over us, so that the flesh will remain subject to Him, in Jesus Name. Amen.

Galatians 5:22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness…”

The Spirit filled and led believer manifest these spiritual attributes called “the fruit of the Spirit”. The church is infested with so much strife because the “fruit of the Spirit” are not exhibited. Can’t you see the utter most necessity for the Holy Spirit’s overflow in us?

Galatians 5:25  “If you live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

This remains a stern Spiritual admonition to adhere to always.

Galatians 6:8 “For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit of the Spirit reap everlasting life.”

26

The busy you are about the things that please the flesh or self, you are as well busy causing its decay. But, as your attention is directed towards the Holy Spirit, you are directly walking towards meaningful life on earth and eternal life in heaven.

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – EPHESIANS

Ephesians 1:13 “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.”

Our salvation in Christ and everything about our Christian faith are incomplete without the seal of the Holy Ghost.

Ephesians 2:18 “For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.”

Jesus is the way the truth and life, no one goes to the Father except by Him. However, “through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.” This circle becomes complete only by the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 2:22 “In whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.”

It is only by the Holy Spirit that our building as the dwelling place of God can stand.

Ephesians 3:5 “Which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets.”

Mysteries of God can not be known or understood without the Holy Spirit. The deeper one is driven into the things of the Spirit, God will easily be revealed.

Ephesians 3:16 “That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man.”

Riches accompanied with divine glory and strength with might, and Gods power, they are all obtained by the Holy Spirit within us.

Ephesians 4:3-4 “Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bound of peace. There is one body and one Spirit just as you were called in one hope of your calling.”

It is by the Holy Spirit that believers can truly remain united. The division in the body of Christ today is consequent to self-seeking dealings because the Holy Spirit had been totally forsaken! We must return to Him unreservedly in Spirit in adherence to the above verse.

Ephesians 4:30 “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”

We have been sealed by the Holy Spirit for the day of redemption; we should always please Him to reach that day without query.

Ephesians 5:18 “And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit.”

Drinking does not get along smoothly with the Holy Spirit. Just seek to be filled and led by Him only.

Ephesians 6:17 “And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

The word of God is the sword of the Spirit; the greatest armour we can always apply against the enemy.

Ephesians 6:18  “Praying always with all payers and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.”

An enduring prayer life can only be sustained by the Holy Spirit. Empty prayer cannot withstand boredom and sleep!

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – PHILIPPIANS

Philippians 1:19 “For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ.”

There is deliverance through prayer, but without the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ it is impossible!

Philippians 2:1 “Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy…”

Both consolation, comfort of love, affection and mercy are bound together in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. Nothing works so effectively without the Holy Spirit! Let us be very mindful of Him in every circumstances we will have no cause to be ashamed (1:20).

The evidence of the true gospel is the assurance of the power of the Holy Spirit.

1 Thess. 4:8 “Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God who has also given us His Holy Spirit.”

Rejecting God is opposition with His Spirit. God is Spirit. His worshippers must worship Him in Spirit and truth. (Jn. 4:24).

1 Thess. 5:19 “DO NOT QUENCH THE SPIRIT”

Keep the flame or fire of the Holy Spirit ablaze all the time, do not extinguish Him. I pray that believers know what this means!

2 Thess. 2:13 “But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.”

Our sanctification, election, salvation and faith in Christ are all by the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – TIMOTHY

1Timothy 3:16 “And without controversy great is the mystery of goodliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the Gentles. Believers in the world, receive up in glory.”

The Lord Himself was justified in the Spirit, what about you?

1Timothy 4:1 “Now the Spirit expressly says that in the latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons,”

The verse says, “Now the Spirit expressly says…” this was in the now then, it is an on-going statement. I pray that what was predicted by the Holy Spirit will never be part of you; departing from the truth!

2 Timothy 1:14 “That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.”

Enabling commitment to obey or keep the gospel committed to us is only possible by the Holy Spirit!

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – HEBREWS

Read verses 2-3 to get a clear picture of this verse.

Hebrews 3:7 “Therefore as the Holy Spirit says: Today, if you will hear His voice…”

Continue the reading to verse 8 to get the clear message to the verse.

Hebrews 6:4 “For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit…”

Continue to read verses 5-6. Tragedy follows those who have been blessed by the Holy Spirit and turned away from the faith.

Hebrews 9:8 “…the Holy Spirit indicating this, that the way to the Holies of all was not yet made manifest while the first tabernacle was still standing.”

The Holy Spirit is always the pointer to the greater truth and the truth is also always made  manifest appropriately in Christ Jesus!

Hebrews 9:12 “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God.”

The offering of Christ, the shedding of His Blood for the salvation of mankind was “through the eternal Spirit.” That is also the assurance of eternal life we will always crave for.

Hebrews10:15 “But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us…” (read on, verse 16).

Hebrews 10:29 “Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he thought who has trampled the son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which He was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?”

The answer is found in the next verse (30), read on!

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – JAMES

James 4:5 “…the Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealousy?”

Of a truth the Spirit of God dwelling in the believer stirs up faith and commitment to love God Almighty in Christ Jesus!

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – PETER

1 Peter 1:2 “… elect according to the fore knowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit…”

1 Peter 1:11 “… the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified before hand the suffering of Christ and the glory that would follow.”

Everything about Jesus and our total redemptive offering was by the Holy Spirit. What else can be done in this world and heaven without Him?

1 Peter 1:12 “To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven things which angels desire to look into.”

What glorious advantage for the believer to be engaged in God’s work by the Holy Ghost; a heavenly assignment the angels desired!

1 Peter 1:22 “Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart…”

(Read verse 23). True obedience is always fulfilled the Holy Spirit’s given truth!

1 Peter 3:18 “…being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit,”

Surely, the Spirit quickened Christ from the grave, the same is quickening our dying bodies to a fire brand ministry of soul winning and making disciples of all nations!

1 Peter 4:14 “If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rest upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.”

Yes, By the Holy Spirit’s blessings, we are a blessing to our generation and great honor to God Almighty, in Christ’s Name!

2 Peter 1:21 “For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.”

It is by the Holy Spirit that we can bear true witness.

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – JUDE

Jude v 19 “These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit.”

Those that cause dissension are without the Holy Ghost. Therefore those who have Him, promote unity!

Jude v20 “But you beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.”

Certainly so, the Holy Spirit alone is our faith builder in the place of prayer!

The Holy Spirit in the Bible – REVELATION

Revelation 1:11 “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet.”

Surely, the Revelation of John was by the Holy Spirit. No one hears from God without His Spirit. And the closer the communion, the louder the voice!

Revelation 2:7 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches…”

(See also 2:7; 11, 17, 29, 3:6, 13, 22)

The repeated occurrence of the same warning by John shows how significant it is to the church at all times. Note the rewards of those who overcome because of obedience to what the Holy Spirit is saying.

Revelation 4:2 “Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.”

Yes, it is only when we are in the Spirit that we can see Christ on His throne and truly honor Him in Majesty.

Revelation 14:13 “…blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on! Yes says the Spirit that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them.”

“Yes,” says the Holy Ghost. He announces the blessings and rest for the faithful ones who died in the Lord. When you will bid farewell to the world, will you hear the sound or the declaration of the Holy Spirit about your faithfulness in the Lord? Yes, make sure it is so in Jesus’ Name. Amen!

Revelation 17:3 “So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness. And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy…”

The angel can minister to us by the Holy Spirit not necessarily to convenient places but to wilderness experiences; and by the same Spirit we can see plans of the wicked and expose them to the glory of God in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Revelation 21:10 “And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great mountain, and showed me the great city the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God.”

Another angelic transport by the Holy Spirit revealed here; the revelation of the Holy city from God. The kingdom of heaven can only be seen and entered into by the Holy Spirit. (Jn. 3:3, 5). Let us not get unnecessarily busy for the Kingdom business without the Holy Spirit’s full participation; it is obviously a waste of time and futile exercise!

Revelation 22:17 “And the Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ And let him who hears says, ‘Come!’ And let him who thirst come. Whoever desires let him take the water of life freely.”

The last verse about the Holy Spirit in the entire Bible has this last message, the Holy Spirit and the bride (church) are now together making a passionate invitation to the listening ears of the end time and the thirsty for the water of life. ‘COME!’

The Holy Spirit Himself is truly the beginning (the Genesis) and the end (the Revelation); the complete and perfect eternal culmination of things. He is God, the Father, the Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit. He is the one with the active role over, in and with our entire existence from earth to heaven. It is therefore impossible to get along with life without Him in every realm and circumstance. May we commune with Him always through eternity?

My Beloved Reader, Say this prayer with me, “Holy Spirit, I love you, I need you! Have mercy on me Lord God Almighty, and do your work in my life; Save many souls and make millions of disciples through me by the greatest move of Your Spirit in me now and ever more, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen and Amen.”
